an answer to dylan thomas

i first read this poem when i was in 4th grade and i have loved it ever since.  in case you are not familiar with dylan thomas, here is a bit of background.  he was a welsh poet who also has written some short stories.  he was believed to have drank himself to death.  he is quoted as saying, “an alcoholic is someone you don’t like who drinks as much as you do.”  a saucy kinda fellow and my kinda guy.  i will ever embrace the day is my answer to this great piece.

DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I will ever embrace the day

i will ever embrace the day

when darkness calls i feel the walls as they close in

hold, hold fast as daylight fades

though in the end, i know with life i’ll pay

because balance comes not from my nature but from a pill

i will always fight here to stay

when my time has come the reaper will not delay

and though it seems in life we can not win

hold, hold fast as daylight fades

empty hearts have lost their way

so as we heavily trudge up another day’s hill

i will always fight to stay

give until there are no words left to say

while open hearts are viewed within

hold, hold fast as daylight fades

to be held again by you i pray

though unworthy my love is not sin

i will ever embrace the day

hold, hold fast as daylight fades

“I will not be just a tourist in the world of images, just watching images passing by which I cannot live in, make love to, possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy.”
    Anais Nin

Not much of a Dylan Thomas fan. Just don’t think he’s sexy enough.

    well peg,

i’m going to assume your mention of ms nin is a comparative one.  we both are of the journal/diarist genre.  divorced from the issues of incest.  i love my father…but in a wholly pure way.  considering that fact that anais had a tryst with henry miller, i can’t help but think that she would have been cool to run with my dylan.  i have to beg to differ that he is not sexy.  it’s just a different kind.  there is nothing more blood pumping than the fight for ones life.
    yours,
    the monkey

Never – ever ASSume. Comparative? not really. I just got choked up from the mustiness. She had many trysts if I remember. Dylan – Thomas – continue to beg – I get to sit with my legs unfolded staring at Don Draper all day. Have fun with Dylan xoxo
