I know I am a crazy animal lady. I’m sure many of you have thought that about me. I always have been. Growing up we had children instead of animals so I filled that yen where I could.
My first “rescue” was a crayfish. We had walked from school to the county park as a field trip to study the flowers and fauna of the area. I walked home with a crayfish in a container. I was in sixth grade. He “lived” in an old fish tank my parents had from when we lived in Germany. Needless to say crayfish can not live on bread in a tap water tank. I cried. The next year I rescued a baby bird that had fallen from a next. I even took it to school so I could feed it from a dropper. I named it jay and he didn’t make it. There were countless other attempts to save the unsavable.
Knowing these stories it should surprise no one how content I am to crawl into bed and be met with a pile of wonderful little lives that we have saved. They each have their own story. They each have given us such a gift in return.
I will do this work as long as I am able. I have been saving longer than I have been doing anything else and I think I finally have it down.
