Even if you don’t have school aged kids your feed will have been flooded with proof that yesterday was the first day of school. It was just another opportunity to experience how differently my kids respond to stressors. I am back to having two other bodies present for my morning scurry. The goose, known as the warbler, popped out of her room the moment she heard me closing my bedroom door behind me. Fully dressed. Eyes peeled wide. She remained glued to me regaling a sort of mantra without breath. She would have put a monk to shame with her abilities. It went something like this:
I didn’t sleep at all I have been awake since three well I guess that means I did sleep some but not the whole night I don’t think I should take melatonin because I can’t sleep the night through when I do I mean I fall asleep but only for a few hours where are you going are you making coffee should I have tea I’ll have tea I was thinking of having granola why did I say granola I don’t even like granola.
It was here with coffee in hand that I interrupted her.
“Are you nervous.”
“Want me to hold you?”
Sometimes the best way to get the hamster off the wheel is just to be rocked like a baby.
” a bit.”
It was a bout that time that the bug descended the stairs.
“I had quite some difficulty getting me left contact in.”
“You ok now?”
I know him. I’m sure he was nervous too. He probably didn’t sleep all that well either but he wears his vexing deep on the inside.
Just like his momma.
And so it begins. Another year underway. Gentleman start you engines.
