it began several years ago, my war with Waste Management. i hadn’t a clue how big of an organization they were until i stood against them. we were having some work done on our building for the business. as a result there was a pile a metal at the back of the building that was our railing. it was our intention to reattach this railing once the work was completed. as stubby hubs hunk was walking to his car that evening he thought, i better put a note on this pile so the trash guys don’t mistake it for refuse. the sign was simple “THIS IS NOT TRASH.” yet when he got to work the next morning, the pile was gone. he called me immediately and i got to work trying to get the metal back. after much runaround and many phone calls, i became aware that we weren’t getting our railing back, and what’s worse, the didn’t really even care. BASTARDS! i worked my way up the chain which landed me with some douche bag regional director whose office was in DC. We had our lawyer send a letter which he laughed at. then i just decided i would be a thorn in his side until i got my way. it wasn’t as easy as i thought it would be. his receptionist stopped taking my calls. so i started calling as someone else. finally he realized i wasn’t going away and offered to pay for half of the cost to re-fabricate our railing. i told him that it was better than nothing, but what was my guarantee that he would follow through. he told me i had his word, i told him i was recording this phone call. the check came 2 weeks later. no, i’m not happy! they should have paid for it all, they are huge and the couple of hundred dollars was nothing to them, where as it was a major loss to us. not to mention the principle. then i started thinking about all of the mob movies i have seen and how they like to be wrapped up in trash hauling. i guess i got off pretty easy….
still, when i see their trucks on the road i curse them. this elephant never forgets.
the next chapter:
we decided to get the bagster. it’s this vinyl bag that you fill with “household waste”. you call them and they come take it away. i was all for it until i saw that it was a Waste Management product. stubs persisted. it seemed a good deal, $40 and they take away everything you can fit in it. finally room in the garage to get out of the car. so, i went to Lowes, got the bag, and stubs filled it up. nowhere on the packaging does it say that there are additional costs. the same with the commercial on TV. these shysters charged us $120 to pick that stuff up. it would have been cheaper to have a local hauler use his truck.
if i go missing, you’ll know it was Waste Management!E
