Yesterday was one of those days where the planets aligned PERFECTLY. The dishwasher repairman showed up within his window of time. While he told me that the problem was a part we have replaced two other times, he also confided that my style of dishwasher was a piece of crap. A fact I had long since suspected. That he could replace the part again for another $350 or he could install a new dishwasher for $600. Said dishwasher is 9 years old. Factor in 12 months same as cash, and you guessed it friends, there’s a new dishwasher in town and it ain’t this monkey. Can I get a woop woop! The wrinkle was I had to go to the store in person to apply for the financing. The trip that could have taken and hour with traffic took 40 minutes. This meant I strolled into the doctors office (not even sweating) sat down and had 5 minutes to fill out paperwork. I had just filled in the last blank when the nurse called my name. It seemed that there was another woman with the same name in the waiting room. You guessed it, it was MY TURN! Yahoo! I had a nice chat with the doc, got in and got out. I made it to lunch with a friend with time to read my book. My lunch was awesome. Great company. Yummy food. Fine service.
I was my own hero today, baby!
Then I got home to find that a friend’s cancer had returned. To her lungs. She had just started to grow her hair back. Dammit!
What’s my take away? Never forget to enjoy the days that your planets align. They are yours and you must savor them. Always be sensitive that while you’ve been busy being your own hero, you may have a friend who needs a little help up the hill. We can do it alone, but why should we? The best days of my life have all been the ones with other people in them. While you’ve had no problem putting your one foot in front of the other, someone you care for may not be able to find their boots let alone put them on.
Never let your passion feel like judgement to another. Convictions are wonderful. I am most attracted to people with them. This might sound like a tangent, but it’s really part of the same whole. While busy responding to the best day ever, I try to remain ever mindful to not boast too much. I am lucky. I am blessed. With that comes a responsibility to spread the wealth. To not deepen the pools of another’s mire.
Balance in all things.
