And one to grow on:
Not mater where I go in my house, I am surrounded by the company of animals. I would have it no other way. My clan range in age from 2 years to 11 years old. They all have their stories, the reasons they came to need a home. Some more troubled than others. They shed. They have accidents. Cough up an array of nasty things. Go where they shouldn’t. Keep us up at night. Get us up before we are ready in the morning. Knead biscuits on our flub. Hog the blankets. Come running when we call. Vie for space on the loves seat where I write when there is a full sized couch four feet away. Sit on my hair. Get fur on my clothes. Get slobber on my clothes. Stare at me when I shower. Sit on the back of the toilet seat when I’m trying to pee. Step on the scale when I’m trying to weigh myself. Whine. Bark. Cleared a room with their stenchy farts. Cry. Sing. They have cost us money. Caused us to worry. Hidden under the bed when we have raised our voice….even when it wasn’t at them.
They have loved us without condition. They have consoled us in heartbreak. Comforted us in loss. They have been my companions when I couldn’t trust people to be.
They have only asked that we care for them in return. For the length of their lives. When you take a pet into your home you make a promise that it will be forever. Please consider this promise seriously before bringing a critter into you home.
